The Christmas Express Family Board Game Review (age 6+) Sent by Cheatwell Games For Review
Our latest review for Cheatwell Games is Christmas Express. Designed for 2 to 4 players aged around 6 or over, this a very nicely illustrated family board game with the aim to get your 'train' all the way to the North Pole first - without sliding backwards down a bridge or getting caught in a snowstorm.

Cheatwell Games 'Host Your Own Family Quiz Night' Game Review (age 8+, sent for review)
Host Your Own Family Quiz Night has been sent to us for review by Cheatwell Games. Recommended for 2 or more players aged around 8 or over, you play as 2 opposing teams. All of the cards have 2 general knowledge questions - one of which is more suitable for the adults, and one a little easier (and sometimes more recent) with multiple choice answers for the younger family members. We played adults vs kids, and it was brilliant.
The game board is relatively small, so you can play without having to clear a big table, and play is instant - set up from brand new took about 2 minutes. Putting the game away is just as quick.
The questions are split into 8 themes, and the board has corresponding spaces, so if you land on 'People', then you get a 'People' question. It's really varied, and the questions very well selected, so none of the categories actually became dreaded or favoured (even Geography).

Sent By Gibsons Games For Review: Out Of Order - The Trivia Game With A Twist (age 14+)
Out Of Order is a brand new game release from Gibsons Games, and we've been sent a copy for review. Described very succinctly as the trivia game with a twist, this is an hilariously funny fast-paced general knowledge for 2-6 players aged 14 or over. Anyone can pick it up and play straightaway, but even though the questions are easy, it's not at all straightforward and can be really hard!
This is a plastic-free game, made in the UK from FSC paper. Gibsons Games products are often plastic-free. All of the hardwoods used in their games are reforested, and the jigsaws made from 100% recycled board.

(Sent for review) 20 Dreams Family Card Game Review - Recognise And Express Your Emotions...
20 Dreams is a really unique card game, so when I was contacted by the developer and asked if I wanted to review, I was very excited to accept. Suitable for 2-6 players, you have to tell a story using picture cards, but also have an Emotion Card, which you keep to yourself, and have to convey through the story for the other players to guess.
Before I even played, I really liked the fact you are showing your emotions. It might sound a bit twee, but everyone is just expected to hide our emotions a lot of the time. It can be incredibly frustrating, and make it hard to actually let our feelings out when we want to. Playing 20 Dreams you are letting go and behaving freely. It's a rare thing these days.
20 Dreams is a card-based game, and it's entirely plastic-free (yeeay!). Everything is stored in a really neat little box with a magnetic closure. I love it when games pack away so small, because they're better for storage and ideal for visiting and travelling. You could pop 20 Dreams in any bag.

(Ad|Review) Trapped: Family Exit Room Games Giveaway from Golden Bear Toys UK (age 8-99+)
To celebrate the launch of their 3 brand new Trapped Exit Room Games, Golden
Bear Toys have offered one of my readers all 3 as a giveaway prize. These are
family-friendly, suitable for children from around age 8 or older, and can be
played by 2-6 players - so they're ideal for household games night, or a get
together with friends or family.
You'll also be one of the very
first people to play, as the games are only out this week (Thursday 27th
May)....
The 3 games the winner will receive are:
The Zoo - Easy level, ideal for beginners or families with children approx 8yrs-12yrs+
Mission To Mars - Medium difficulty, best for families with kids 12-15+ or adults - word is
that this one is particularly funny.
Flight 927 - Hard difficulty, ideal for
families with older teens or for grown ups (it nearly beat us!).
Each game pack contains everything you'll need except paper and a pen if you want to make notes....and your living room. You use the resources inside to transform your room, and then follow the clues to solve the puzzle - and then make your escape within the hour!
The games are loads of fun, and everyone has their own talents at puzzle-solving, so with a wide variety of different clues, there is something for everyone to get their teeth into. You are under time pressure, which adds extra excitement, but thankfully there are also hints if you are stuck (which we were!).
Trapped escape room games are an excellent way to spend an hour or two together, you really do work as a team together, and there's a great sense of pride when you solve a clue!
You can find my full Trapped Exit Room Game Pack review here - we played through the HARD Flight 927 scenario, and we did escape - in the end...

(Ad|review) Trapped: Family Escape Room Game Packs Review from Golden Bear Toys (age 8+)
I love a puzzle game, so 'escape adventures' or 'exit room games' are right up
my street. Golden Bear Toys have just added 3 new titles to their range of
family friendly escape room game packs, which everyone from around 8+ can join
in with together.
We were sent the 3 new games to try - The Zoo (Easy), Mission To Mars (Medium), and
Flight 927 (Hard). All of the games are suitable for 2-6 players, and we played
with 4 people. 2 adults, plus our 11 and 12 year olds.
Everything for the game is packaged neatly in a single envelope style box. It's actually a very small pack. It's light, and handy for taking with you for a visit or overnight stay. When you open it, there is a lot inside, and most of it is NOT to be looked at, or even revealed until the right moment in the game.

Hedgeways Strategy Tile Game Giveaway (With Sprout & Gherkin) Age 7-99+
Hedgeways is a wooden strategy game which we were sent to review earlier this Autumn by Sprout & Gherkin. Designed for 2 players (although we have played a version with more), and recommended for anyone aged around 7-99+, it's fun to play, and a beautiful game which comes in the most amazing wooden box...
Hedgeways is from the same people who make another gorgeous wooden tile game, Sproutword, and it's just as clever. There is no plastic packaging, in fact no plastic at all, and the box itself is part of the joy - created mainly from a single piece of wood, carefully cut to bend over and clip shut. That'll impress the Grandads...

Hedgeways - Eco-Friendly 2 Player Strategy Tile Game Review - Sent by Sprout & Gherkin
The people behind the gorgeous wooden tile game Sproutword are back with another equally beautiful eco-friendly wooden game. Hedgeways is for 2 players, although we've also played a light-hearted game with 4, and recommended for anyone aged around 3-99+ (best for anyone aged 6+ in my opinion).
The first thing you'll notice is the box. Hedgeways is packaged in an incredibly clever all wooden box, and it instantly calls out to be wrapped in colourful tissue paper and given to someone you really like as a gift.
The box is all-in-one, and you just flip the lid to open it. The front, back and hinge are created from a single piece of wood, carefully cut and shaped, and it's really very clever, and quite special.
Inside the box nothing is wasted and the entire thing is plastic-free. The instructions are very simple and printed on recycled card, and there is a cloth drawstring bag holding all of the wooden tiles.

Orchard Toys Reviews ~ Part II ~ Where's My Cupcake and What A Performance
We took advantage of the free postage for orders over £15 and ordered Where's My Cupcake? and What A Performance, which had both come highly recommended at Playfest on Twitter and Facebook. Where's My Cupcake was mainly for boy no.4, who is 3 in March, and What A Performance was for the whole family to play together. As with all Orchard Toys games and puzzles they are designed and manufactured in the UK from strong 100% recycled board. They have really bright colours, modern pictures and chunky pieces that don't bend or come apart during even quite boisterous play. They are built to be played with, and built to last.

Orchard Toys Reviews - Three Little Pigs And Old MacDonald Lotto Games
We were lucky enough to review both the Three Little Pigs and Old MacDonald Lotto for Izziwizzi Kids Playfest. As with all Orchard Toys games and puzzles they are designed and manufactured in the UK from strong 100% recycled board. They have really bright colours, modern pictures and chunky pieces that don't bend or come apart during even quite boisterous play. They are built to be played with, and built to last.
Three Little Pigs ~ Age 3-6
The Three Little Pigs game retails at £11.75. It is suitable for 2-4 players and the suggested age range is 3-6. It is perfect for nursery or pre-school aged children who are learning to count, and beginning to become confident with numbers. It teaches turn-taking and basic game play, and also the concepts of winning and losing via a more indirect path, as a player can be 'winning' but then have a couple of unlucky throws and fall back.
We loved the 3D nature of this game, the little pig characters and the houses made it really tactile and held the interest of the younger children, they were also excellent for encouraging a little imaginative play!
Old MacDonald Lotto ~ Age 2-6
Old MacDonald Lotto retails at £9.50. It is suitable for 2-4 players and the suggested age range is 2-6.
This game is ideal for a younger child who is learning to turn take and play games. It teaches recognition of different animals and objects, and their corresponding actions or sounds, expanding a child's vocabulary and increasing their confidence. It encourages observation, memory and matching skills.
The aim of the game is to collect all of the matching cards shown on your lotto board before the other players. If you find a matching card you then perform an action or sound that corresponds with that card before placing it on your board.
Our 2 year old especially was delighted with this game and felt really special that we have a game he can play on an almost even level with his older siblings. He very quickly learnt all of the names for the objects which appear, from the very familiar through to 'woodpecker' and 'milk churn' which are not so commonplace.
He picked up the idea of taking turns very quickly, although found it harder when there were 4 players and spent a lot of time being confused as to when it was his turn, but it was all good. We liked that we could change the game slightly to match the ability and interest of the children playing. When the 2 year old played he really liked the 'farmer' characters, so we let him choose one before we even started, otherwise he couldn't concentrate on the game because he was too keen to, in his words 'choose a player'!
